Kakadu National Park and Arnhem Land comprise more than 110,000 square kilometers in the north-east corner of the Northern Territory. Dual World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park is the largest national park in Australia, occupying almost 20,000 square kilometers. It contains one of the highest concentrated areas of aboriginal rock art sites in the world; the most famous examples are at Nourlangie Rock and Ubirr. One of the best ways to experience the Kakadu Region is to take one of the many walks available throughout the park, which allows travelers to see more than 1600 plant species, 280 bird species and 10,000 insect species! Kakadu is also home to spectacular waterfalls and river systems.
Arnhem Land is located East of Kakadu National Park and comprises 91,000sqkm of undeveloped natural landscapes. It is one of the last great unspoiled areas in the world; its small population is predominately Aboriginal people whose traditional culture remains largely intact. Some spectacular accommodation and tour products are available to travelers looking for a once in a lift time travel experience.

Getting There and Around
Jabiru is the closest township to Kakadu National Park and is accessible by both road and light aircraft. Driving time from Darwin is approximately 3-hours (250kms). Arnhem Land is accessible from Kakadu National Park or by air via Gove. Qantas fly to Gove Airport from Darwin and Cairns. Anyone wanting to venture into Arnhem Land needs to apply for a permit through the Northern Land Council (telephone 1800 645 299).
